15 Week Life Skills Experience

We start from Cape Town, South Africa spending the first week driving North where we start by exploring the Augrabies Falls National Park and experiencing a 5 day Orange river trip with only a few grade 3 rapids to contend with, bordering South Africa and Namibia.

We sleep under the stars on the banks of the mighty Orange River. Exploring old diamond diggings in some of the most inaccessible areas in the country, lots to take in and learn about this fragile desert ecology.

From here on our mind set and approach to the journey is being African, not just living it!

Entering Namibia we head for the Fish River Canyon and the hot springs at Ai-Ais. Leaving this oasis we wind through the desert to our KCGP Camp on the edge of the oldest desert in the World 'The Namib Naukluft Park' where our King Cheetah Gene Project on 20 000 hectares of private reserve is starting up.

This project includes game farm management following strict conservation ethics leaving a small human footprint. This private Desert Reserve with a wide variety of wild game will be home for approximately 8 weeks.

We leave Namibia before our 3 month visas expire and enter the neighbouring country of Botswana for the following 3 months.

We enter Botswana from the North West travelling South following the Okavango river stopping in the Tsodilo Hills area, Drotsky's Caves and an interlude with a Bushman Village for a week. We will explore the Okavango Delta extensively by Mokoro.

The 15 week life skills programme 3 countries clients enjoy the first 3 weeks in Botswana with the 7 month Gap Year group before departing from Maun onto Jhb and their next travel destination.

The clients joining for the 2 countries programme arrive here, and get to experience the Eastern Okavango, Moremi Game Reserve, Chobe National Park, Nxai Pan Makgadikgadi National Park and the Central Kalahari National Park on safari moving from campsite to campsite. We do have 3 camps we will use as bases and where we will work with the families of the staff from our camps in their home villages assisting where we can.

We enter South Africa in the North of the Kruger National Park 24 weeks after leaving Cape Town. We spend one week travelling through the Kruger National Park where from here on we are accommodated in rooms and our camping days come to an end, we will also visit "Adams Calendar" in Waterfalboven. Travelling South East we head for the Drakensberg to unwind and walk the roof of Africa and the barrier of spears. From here we travel through the Transkei visiting quaint beaches and bays working our way South West to Jeffreys Bay and the Garden Route Tsitsikamma on week 27.

Your last week is spent in Plettenberg Bay for 4 nights and Cape Agulhas 1 night en-route to Cape Town where you are accommodated in a 5 star Villa / Hotel for the last 2 nights.

Reflecting back on the past 15 weeks you will have experienced being in a state of somewhere between a tourist and a volunteer, observing, learning and experiencing Africa at her very best living with fire daily to survive, albeit our chariots are erstwhile 16/17 Mercedes Benz 4 wheel drive monster trucks seating 13 in comfort and Land Rover Defenders.
